shared by Barbara Lifton, outgoing Assemblywoman:

The Governor, via Executive Order, has extended the NYS COVID-19 rent relief program to February. 1, 2021. $60 million is available in this next round. The previous requirement that you had to be rent burdened *before* the pandemic has been removed as one of the conditions to qualify. (Now, you only need to be rent burdened in the months for which you apply for rent assistance.) Previous applicants do not have to reapply to receive consideration. The NYS Department of Homes & Community Renewal (HCR) is saying it will reevaluate all applications that were denied according to the new criteria and issue revised determination letters to applicants. Applications are available online here.

People who need help or have questions about their application can contact HCR’s COVID Rent Relief Program Call Center for assistance at 1-833-499-0318 or covidrentrelief@hcr.ny.gov.

The Town of Danby sits on the traditional & ancestral land of the Gayogoho:no’ (Cayuga Nation), one of the five nations to first form the Haudenosaunee. Indigenous peoples were largely forced out of Upstate New York by the Sullivan-Clinton Expedition in 1779. The land that would become the Town of Danby was a part of the Watkins and Flint Purchase, a 336,380 acre patent granted by New York State to numerous eastern investors in 1794.
