The Danby Fire District of the Town of Danby, Tompkins County, New York, will hold its regular meetings on:
the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 P.M.
Meetings will be held at the Danby Fire Station, 1780 Danby Road, Town of Danby.
All meetings of the Danby Fire District are open to the public.
This notice is being given in accordance with the provisions of Section 104 of the Public Officers Law of the State of New York.

The Danby Volunteer Fire Company (1780 Danby Rd) and the West Danby Fire Department (47 Sylvan Drive) also meet on the 2nd Monday of each month for their business meetings at their respective locations.
The Danby Fire District provides fire and EMS protection to the district through the Danby Volunteer Fire Company and the West Danby Volunteer Fire Company.
A small portion of the district located along Coddington Road is protected through contract by Brooktondale Fire Department.
The Danby Fire District is funded by resident property taxes and is responsible for:
The Board of Fire Commissioners consists of five members, each one publicly elected by the qualified voters of the district to a five year term. The position is volunteer, per Town Law 174, so none of the commissioners receives any pay for their work. Elections for commissioner are held annually, on the second Tuesday of December, for one of the five seats, thus ensuring that there are always experienced commissioners in office per Town Law 175.
Per Town Law 181, the district presents its budget at a public hearing on the third Tuesday of every October.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the proposed budget of the Danby Fire District of the County of Tompkins and State of New York has been adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Danby Fire District.
A PUBLIC HEARING will be held at the Danby Fire District Fire Station, 1780 Danby Road, Ithaca, New York 14850 on the 19th day of October 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
Pursuant to Town Law §181, the Board of Fire Commissioners shall hold a public hearing to discuss the contents of the proposed budget. At such hearing, any person may be heard in favor of or against the proposed budget as compiled, or for or against any item or items therein contained.
A copy of the proposed budget is available at the Office of the Town Clerk of the Town of Danby at the Danby Town Hall, 1830 Danby Road, Ithaca, New York where it may be inspected by any interested person by calling (607) 277-4788 for an appointment or at the Office of Fire District Secretary at the Danby Fire District Fire Station, 1780 Danby Road, Ithaca, New York where it may be inspected by any interested person by calling (607) 319-4721 for an appointment.

The Town of Danby sits on the traditional & ancestral land of the Gayogoho:no’ (Cayuga Nation), one of the five nations to first form the Haudenosaunee. Indigenous peoples were largely forced out of Upstate New York by the Sullivan-Clinton Expedition in 1779. The land that would become the Town of Danby was a part of the Watkins and Flint Purchase, a 336,380 acre patent granted by New York State to numerous eastern investors in 1794.
