Dan Toronto and Leah Dodd will lead a field trip to a variety of habitats in and around Danby. This will likely include a scan of Jennings Pond, a good listen at Hillview Swamp, scoping the heronry near the West Danby fire station, and a walk-up Steam Mill Rd. Highlights may include Bobolink, Black-throated Green Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Blue-headed Vireo, Virginia Rail, and Great Blue Heron on nest. The locations may vary based on recent sightings and interest. The trip will start at 7am at Jennings Pond Park off of Bald Hill Rd. We may carpool from there. Dress for the weather. Bring binoculars and bug spray. We have a scope. More are welcome. E-mail leahdodd@gmail.com with questions.

The Town of Danby sits on the traditional & ancestral land of the Gayogoho:no’ (Cayuga Nation), one of the five nations to first form the Haudenosaunee. Indigenous peoples were largely forced out of Upstate New York by the Sullivan-Clinton Expedition in 1779. The land that would become the Town of Danby was a part of the Watkins and Flint Purchase, a 336,380 acre patent granted by New York State to numerous eastern investors in 1794.
