Here are some quick reminders and suggestions:
-Our office is open Monday-Friday 11am-4pm. We have a 24hr drop box by the double doors at the entrance to Town Hall for payments after hours. Please give us a call at 607-277-4788 or email us at clerkoffice@danby.ny.gov if you have any questions.
-Checks or money orders should be made out to the “Danby Tax Collector”.
-We HIGHLY recommend including an email or phone number with your payment. This will be used to contact you in case of any errors with your tax payment. Most common errors include unsigned checks, checks written in the wrong amount, and checks with no dates. We cannot accept incomplete payments.
-If you have not gotten your bill, please contact us. We can tell you the amount or email you a copy of the bill. You can also find the amount online by using our “Pay Here” button, going to “Danby Town and County Taxes”, and inputting the owner’s last name and the road name.
-To update the names or addresses on a bill, please contact the Tompkins County Assessment office.
-Penalty-free payments must be made on or before February 2nd. Writing February 2nd as the date on the check is not sufficient. Mailed payments MUST have a postal mark that shows February 2nd or earlier. To ensure this, it is recommended to bring your mail to the post office and request it be postmarked there.
-We do accept credit card payments. There is a 2.7% credit card fee for this service. We are unable to waive this fee.
-Installment payments are not available after February 2nd. The county collects payment for the second installment.
-Payments without the 1% penalty made after February 2nd will be returned. We are unable to waive this penalty. We will accept payments with the 1% penalty from February 3rd until March 2nd. From March 3rd until March 31st, the penalty fee is 2%+$1.
-We cannot accept any payment made after March 31st. All unpaid taxes must be paid to the County after March 31st. Please contact the Tompkins County Treasury Department in mid-April for information.
