PROPOSED Local Law: Noise Law

History of Drafts #

In February 2022, a board-appointed noise committee brought a draft local law regarding noise in the Town of Danby. The Board received the draft (now considered to be v1) and held a public hearing on Wednesday 18 May 2022.

After much public comment and discussion with and among the Board, the Town Board asked Warren Cross, a Danby resident with expertise in acoustics, to review the field of noise ordinances. Mr. Cross presented to the Town Board his report at the 22 March 2023 meeting which included a revised draft law (now referenced as v2).

After further public comment and feedback, a Noise Working Group was created and tasked with revising the law once again. That resulted in the proposed law v3 posted above.

The Town of Danby sits on the traditional & ancestral land of the Gayogoho:no’ (Cayuga Nation), one of the five nations to first form the Haudenosaunee. Indigenous peoples were largely forced out of Upstate New York by the Sullivan-Clinton Expedition in 1779. The land that would become the Town of Danby was a part of the Watkins and Flint Purchase, a 336,380 acre patent granted by New York State to numerous eastern investors in 1794.
